Only pressure from the international community on the Russian Federation can save Edem Bekirov’s life, Сommissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ludmila Denisova said. She wrote about it on Facebook on 15th August.

“Today “The Supreme court of the Republic of Crimea ” had to choose the local court which would exercise the criminal jurisdiction, whether it would be “Krasnoperekopsk District Court of the Republic of Crimea” or “Central District Court of Simferopol”. Edem Bekirov who nowadays is in the Simferopol Remand Center had to attend the oral hearing via videoconference. For this, he had to leave his room and to go to a specially equipped placement on the territory of the Remand Centre. However, because of the pain in his back, he couldn’t do it. Because of the same reason he didn’t meet with his lawyer two days ago” – Denisova wrote.

It should be reminded that the meeting of the Supreme Court of Crimea had been rescheduled to be held on 20 August at 2 pm.

“We emphasize once again that Edem Bekirov won’t make it through the transportation to Krasnoperekopsk because of his health. Only pressure from the international community on the Russian Federation can save Edem Bekirov’s life” – Denisova wrote.
