The USA and the EU strongly support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and urge the Russian Federation to return its territory under Ukrainian control.
This was stated by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during a meeting with EU foreign ministers on Monday, said State Department spokesman Morgan Ortagus in a statement.
Thus, the US Secretary of State thanked the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Joseph Borrel, for organizing the meeting.
The meeting was held in a videoconference mode. During the discussion, the parties “noted the importance of the transatlantic partnership in rebuilding economies after the coronavirus, and also emphasized a joint commitment to democratic values, which is a stronghold of opposing attempts by Russia and China to damage democratic values,” Ortagus said in a statement.
The relevant EU statement also emphasizes the unity of the US and EU positions with regard to Ukraine. “The discussion of the Eastern Partnership confirmed that a strong partnership between the US and the EU remains key – especially with regard to Ukraine,” the EU statement said.
