In the United States, a group of senators led by Republican Marco Rubio and Democrat Ben Cardin called for new sanctions against Russia due to the persecution of opposition members and human rights violations.
The corresponding appeal was sent to the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the head of the Ministry of Finance Stephen Mnuchin.
The authors of the appeal note that the number of political prisoners in Russia, in particular, includes participants in peaceful protests, civil activists, Crimean Tatars, supporters of undesirable organisations.
